A little history....

español eXtra became a subscription website on Wednesday October 25th 2006 having been free of charge since its creation in September 2004.

Having been totally free since September 2004, and with phenomenal success with well over 7 million accesses in just two years, the only way for español eXtra to remain in its current format and to grow substantially was to introduce a small annual subscription charge. With such a huge number of hits per day, we had to increase our bandwidth to nearly 100GB per month, a huge amount for a website, and improve our hosting and infrastructure to meet the demands from our users for an unrivalled quality of resources and speed of access. Our costs increased considerably since the early days of only several hundred MB per day since español eXtra first started in 2004 as we endeavoured to keep up with the site's popularity. By charging a very reasonable annual subscription fee, which covers home use for all pupils as well as school use, we were sure that we would be able to continue to provide the best high speed, reliable service for everyone and the subscriptions payable enabled, and continue to enable us, to invest further in the service to bring to you the best online Spanish resources available anywhere on the Internet.
